Miracles in Motion
TO ALL NEW STUDENTS & FAMILIES:
Miracles in Motion is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to foster personal
achievement by providing diverse equestrian activities with therapeutic, educational
and recreational benefits for persons with disabilities. The benefits to the
rider in the program range from recreational to building of self-esteem, communication,
strength, and confidence. Volunteers gain new friendships and receive personal
satisfaction in helping people with disabilities participate in this unique
therapy.
Thank you for your interest in Miracles in Motion. Please read all of the following
guidelines, then follow the link at the bottom of the page:
- To determine eligibility for participation in therapeutic
riding, you must first submit the Application/Evaluation
Form. Please download/print this form, fill it out thoroughly
and mail it to Miracles in Motion, P.O. Box 14, Cedar Rapids, IA,
52406. This form is an important first step in our evaluation
process.(If you do not have access to a printer, please notify us.
We will gladly mail you this form.)
- Upon receipt of your Application/Evaluation Form, the Program
Director will review the information and contact you. All new
students must have his/her doctors permission to ride and
must attend an initial orientation/evaluation at the riding
center. At the orientation/evaluation session one of our volunteer
Physical or Occupational Therapists and an instructor will meet
with you. You (the student) will also meet and possibly ride a
horse. This orientation/evaluation session will take approximately
45 minutes. (All required forms must be on site for this
evaluation to take place.)
- When there is an opening in an appropriate class, the Program
Director will notify you. Classes are made up of students of
similar age, ability and experience. Although we attempt to
schedule students on a first come, first served basis,
participation is dependent on the availability of an appropriate
class. The Program Director will notify you when there is an
opening.
- Volunteer Needs: Depending on students needs,
volunteer requirements can be as high as 16 volunteers per class.
Please consider having parents and family members attend volunteer
training and help with the program. The volunteer training
schedule is on the calendar page.
Enrollment Donation and Fundraising:
- Enrollment costs are tax deductible only if the donation exceeds the value
of the service provided. Our current annual program cost is $1,000 per student
per year.
- We suggest a donation of $25.00 per riding hour however; it is the policy
of Miracles in Motion to provide service to students of any means. We do understand
that not all people will be able to pay $25 per riding hour, but some contribution
to the program is required by each student/family.
- Private lessons are available for a fee of $35/lesson.
- In order to fund our annual budget, we ask all students, parents, and volunteers
to actively participate in our annual fundraising efforts.
FORMS:
The required forms must be on site, at the farm, before a student can get on
a horse. All forms are good for one year and must be filled out annually. The
receipt of forms does not guaranty admission to our program, but completed forms
may facilitate participation, should an appropriate class become available.
In other words, if there is a last minute opening in an appropriate class, it
will be beneficial to have all required forms on file.
