Special Stories
March 09 - Thank You from Tracee
The
first time I came to Miracles 16 years ago, I wasn’t sure that
I wanted to be there. My physical therapist at school recommended it
and brought the information. I was really tired of everyone telling
me what I had to do and giving me more exercises to do. Four years before
that I had a malignant brain tumor and went through chemo and radiation
treatments and a long list of therapies to restore what I had lost.
So, in 1993 I found myself at Miracles and on a horse.
Riding a horse is work. It takes a lot of muscles to sit upright and
balance while riding. My thighs also get a workout when I squeeze so
the horse goes faster. Then we do exercises while sitting on the horse.
Riding a horse is fun. It’s great sitting up there and feeling
the motion of the horse’s body. The horses are so gentle and follow
my directions. My favorite horse is Chance because we’re good
for each other, and I’ve been riding him the longest. We’re
comfortable with each other.
Besides the horses, the other thing that makes Miracles so special is
all of the volunteers. The horse people do a great job taking care of
the horses and having them ready. The teacher chooses fun activities
for us to do and also gives the riders choices. I enjoy talking to my
horse leader and sidewalkers. They really care about me and are interested
in what I have to say. We talk about all the things that are on my mind
and they let me brag about my favorite baseball team, the St. Louis
Cardinals.
I like riding at Miracles. I’ve made many friends and look forward
to seeing them each time I go back. I know it has helped me physically,
and it just makes me happy! I want to say a big “Thank you!”
to everyone at Miracles and to let you know how special you all are!
When I’m not riding at Miracles, I work two mornings each week
at the Keystone Bank in Marengo. I like to read mystery books, do word-search
puzzles, play solitaire on the computer, watch TV, and help my mom with
things for school.
Thanks, Tracee, for this outpouring of affection for Miracles in
Motion and our volunteers!

Shamrock Gets a Visitor from His Past
In June 2007, Shamrock had a blast from his past! One of his former owners,
Tyfany Boettcher-Burke, visited him when she was back in the state from
Texas.

Tyfany started riding Shamrock at lessons in Arizona. Her family transferred
to Iowa, where they looked at other ponies, but as Tyfany puts it, “No
horse I looked at was as great as Shamrock was!” Tyf
and Shamrock showed around the area for about 10 years. “He would jump
anything you pointed him at!” she reports. She and her sister spent time
trail riding and got Shamrock to swim, too. (Check out the great photo
of this pair from years ago!)
Tyfany kept touch with the person she sold him to, Lois Kelly, for a time.
About six months ago, Tyfany had a dream about her pony friend that inspired
her to use the internet to find Lois, who happily reported that he was
at Miracles in Motion. “Getting to see him was by far the highlight
of our trip. It was much better than even going to my high school reunion!”
Tyfany says. “It was wonderful to see him. He looks just the same! It’s
been almost 20 years since we had him shipped to Iowa.”
Tyfany is getting a Ph.D. in psychology and her husband’s in law school,
but someday, she hopes to own horses again. Until then, Tyfany has been
inspired to find local therapeutic equestrian programs in her local Austin
area where she and her 14 year old sister plan to volunteer.
Tyfany, thanks for your visit and sharing such a great history of one
of our boys.
